Residents' Council Monthly Meeting
The Charlestown Residents' Council Meeting is on December 1, 2015, at 7:30 PM in the Auditorium. Each month's minutes are posted two weeks after a meeting. Use the Council photo to identify Council members.
A summary of the meeting, Voices of the Council, is shown on Channel 972 the Friday after the Council meeting during the news at 10, Noon, 4 p.m., 8 p.m. and 10 p.m. Watch the entire meeting on Channel 972 on the weekends at 1:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m.
Change in Meeting Room: The Legislative/Political Committee will meet in the Brookside Classroom 1 on December 9, 2015, 10:00 a.m. instead of HR 142.
Residents are invited to attend any Council Committee meeting. Please call the chair to make sure there is room to attend. Committees meet on a regular schedule as posted. Many committees will not meet in December due to the Holidays. So far following committees will not meet in December; Benevolent Care Fund, Communications, Conservation, Finance, Grounds, Safety & Security.

Wreaths Across America
Sponsor a wreath for a veteran's grave in the Baltimore National Cemetery and a goodie bag for Operation Welcome Home Maryland through the Wreaths for America program. Donate your gift by completing a form by November 30th. A shuttle will be provided for residents wishing to attend the ceremony at noon on December 12th. Call x601-8892 in Philanthropy.
Join the Community Resource staff for the Community Holiday Tree Trimming Parties with holiday music and refreshments. Check the dates and locations on the flyer.
New Phone System
The Charlestown Staff have new phones that now require a 601 before calling an extension. A new message will tell you that the menu options have changed. If you are using the courtesy phone at lobby desks, dial a 9 before calling a local phone number. The General Services number 443-29SERVE will continue to work. The shuttle can be reached by calling 443-29SERVE and touching 6 or by 410-737-8838 ext. 601-8448#.
There remain a few issues with the phones so if you are not able to reach the Treasure Sale pickup lines and others, please note that the staff are working to resolve the issues.
New Walking Map
A new Outdoor Walking Route Map shows measured walking routes to avoid the construction area. A new Indoor Walking Route Map is now available showing a marked .75-mile route. The maps are also available at the lobby desks.
After 32 years, the lock system is being upgraded. The apartment locks will be switched out starting November 30. You will be provided new keys at that time. The rekeying will start in the Historic section. A detailed building schedule will be put in the cubbies. The project will be done in stages with all the buildings completed by Christmas. Updates will be provided on TV channels 970 and 972. The exterior door locks will be changed in December. New keys for the exterior doors will be provided at that time.
Staff Appreciation Fund
The Staff Appreciation Fund campaign is underway to collect contributions for our hourly employees, The Charlestown Stars. Since No Tipping is the Charlestown policy, this is our way to show our thanks and appreciation for the service we receive. Drop your contribution is the lobby containers or stop at he Philanthropy office to run your credit card. The deadline is November 20. Watch for the videos featuring our Stars on Channel 972. There will be a running total of contributions on the scroll. As of Tuesday, November 25, over $239,750 has been contributed.
CCBC Winter classes run from January - March, 2016. Registration runs from December 2-11. Check the CCBC Winter Course Guide for course details and registration instructions.
ELLIC has openings in a number of December courses. Don't miss the opportunity to take advantage of these offerings.
Charlestown’s Mission Moments is an employee recognition program, designed to give residents, family members, guests, and other employees the opportunity to give special recognition to employees who demonstrate Charlestown values in particularly exemplary ways. Recognition forms are available here and at the Lobby Desks. Watch channel 972 for announcements of the Mission Moments Masters – the best of the best nominations from the previous month.

Tech Tutors is a resident volunteer program that provides one-on-one instruction for people needing help with their computer or tablet. A request form for the free service is available online for printing and also at the lobby desks. Basic information can be found in the group's Frequently Asked Questions document.
